Hockey card timer for umpires

Card management in field hockey needs to be fast and accurate. Umpires need card timing, follow-up reminders and match context without extra mental load.

HockeyUmpire keeps green and yellow card timing visible during the match and supports warnings before a card expires. Because card timing stays part of the same match flow, you do not need separate timers or paper notes.

  • Issue green, yellow and red cards inside the live match flow
  • Track card duration with visible countdowns and reminders
  • Keep player numbers and card reasons when Pro is enabled
  • Review card events later in match history and reports

Rule context

Card timing and player suspension rules are easy to mishandle under pressure. HockeyUmpire keeps those timings visible so umpires can stay accurate during live play.

FIH baseline

Under the FIH rules, a green card results in a 2-minute suspension, a yellow card results in a temporary suspension of at least 5 minutes, and a red card permanently suspends the player for the rest of the match. During temporary suspensions, the team plays with one fewer player.

Those timings and consequences make a dedicated card timer more reliable than paper notes or mental tracking.

  • Review card events later in the match history timeline

National competition context

Federations and competitions can add local administrative guidance, indoor adaptations, and competition-specific procedures around cards, reporting, or match interruptions.

HockeyUmpire keeps the live timing clear while leaving the underlying competition choices in your control.

Always follow the current card procedures for your federation and competition, especially when local administrative guidance supplements the base rules.
